We Offer Our Prayers Together

Congregational Prayer Liturgist

All: Lord, when was the last time we stood on tiptoes, stretching to see over the horizon, stretching to see tomorrow, stretching to see the cutting edge of life? Many times we are complacent and view life from the easy chair. We are sometimes content to let life come to us, taking whatever comes. Lord, shock us out of the easy chair. Holy Spirit, get us up on our tiptoes again; put us on frontiers of your revelation. As seekers, help us affirm our faith. As witnesses, help us speak to others about Jesus Christ. As disciples, help us to follow faithfully. As servants, help us to serve. As your children, let us share eternity. God, we thank you for tiptoe experiences. Amen. Today we pray for…. Rev. Shana Dry After each prayer request red: Pastor: God of Love, All: Hear our Prayer The Pastor will lift any prayers that have been made known to the office. We Hear The Word Proclaim

Sermon Series: James: A Love Letter Sermon Title: The Beginning of Wisdom is Love Scripture Base: James 1:17-27 given by Rev. Matt Franks Lead Pastor TUMC We Respond To The Word

Hymn: Be Kind To One Another Tune: Samuel Sebastian Wesley, 1864

Text: by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette During this hymn if you want to come forward and spend some time at the kneeling rails to pray you are more than welcome to do so. If you need the Pastors to pray with you, please let them know. If you want to join our Church family today, please come forward and let us know so we can receive you into membership.

1. Be kind to one another, be tender-hearted too — forgiving one another, as Christ has pardoned you. Refrain from any gossip, for gossip is a sin. Be open to new friendships, and welcome people in.

2. Be kind in all your speaking and hear what others say. Be open to Christ's teaching, and in all matters, pray. Be gentle, loving, faithful and keep a humble mind. Remember what is truthful. In everything be kind. 3. Be kind within your circle, but look past what you see; Be kind to those in trouble — the poor, the refugee. The world is filled with violence; write letters, call out sin! Don't ever sit in silence and let the evil win. 4. O God of love, you've taught us. You've shown us what to do: Be just, commit to kindness, walk humbly here with you. Your Spirit gives us courage to truly live this way. May love become our message; may kindness win the day.

Invitation to Share Love Rev. Shana Dry

Pastor: As we go, please join me in this invitation to love in 2021.

All: In 2021 we will live to have hope for the future, to live in peace, to love

unconditionally, and to know the joy of the Lord so that through God we will transform the world.

Pastor: This quarter we are challenged to love unconditionally. 1 Corinthians 16:14 reads, “Everything should be done in love.” May everything you do radiate the love of Christ. As we depart from worship may the God of hope, peace, love and joy journey with you throughout your week.

Closing Hymn: Lord, You Give The Great Commission UMH 584

1. Lord, you give the great commission: "Heal the sick and preach the word." Lest the church neglect its mission, and the gospel go unheard, help us witness to your purpose with renewed integrity.

With the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.
